Unit 8

1. Review the exercises and practice sessions you have completed in this course.  (Loving, Kindness, Subtle mind, Visualization, meditation etc.) Choose two practices that you have determined to be most beneficial. How can you implement these practices in your personal life to foster “mental fitness”? Provide specific examples.
After reviewing the practice exercises completed in this course I chose the loving kindness and visualization to be most beneficial for me. I often feel like my day is so rushed and even when I lay down to sleep I still am trying to play catch up. I have learned that I can intend with focus for things to happen in a much lighter determination and sense of accomplishment if I visualize prior. I may be lying in bed going over my dos for the next day with no real order. My next thought would be, “I have so much to do tomorrow!” Instead of starting the stress out process, I can spend the same amount of time visualizing my schedule in order to ensure a bit of ease. Furthermore lending positivity to the visualization is like pre living the process.
Loving Kindness exercise should be mandatory for everybody. It has steadily cleared my mind enabling me to love the woman in front of me at the market because she is human instead of growing increasingly angry that she is holding me up.

  1. Rosie,
I love the example of the person slowing you down at the market! I think that it is so common now that we find ourselves inconvenienced because people "Get in our way". I have gotten pretty good about this over the years. I remember when I became okay about sitting in traffic during my daily commute. I used to drive a 15 min drive that would be 45 min during traffic and I began to find ways to enjoy this time as a way to reflect. I also have experienced others taking their daily stuff out on others and it is not a good sight so I really rather not be that person!

  2. Rosie, good post, I too enjoyed the loving kindness. Since this term brought it out and termed it with a name, I have brought it to the front of my daily intentions, everywhere I go. I had always practiced this concept, but now really love the idea is all about my intention to everyone I come in contact with. The other thing I have enjoyed about meditation and clearing the mind is how in 30 min or less, I am free of daily stress and worry. It truly is refreshing to find those moments especially at the end of a hectic day.

  3. I truly enjoyed the loving kindness exercise as it really allowed me to understand the importance of compassion. I view compassion as I empathize with you followed by how can I serve you. Being of service to one another is a powerful thing! I believe that the act of giving and receiving is one in the same and the method through which we keep things or energy in circulation. This is a great way to help impart love and compassion to our fellow human beings through the receiving of perceived suffering and transmuting it into loving kindness. Thank you for a great blog.

    Regards,
    John
